Cross Country Completes Conference Season at OVC Championships

The Murray State men's and women's cross country teams completed 2010 Ohio Valley Conference competition Saturday morning at the OVC Championships in Cookeville, Tenn., hosted by Tennessee Tech at Southern Hills Golf Course.
The women's squad placed third out of 10 teams and was paced by senior Katelyn Jones. Jones finished 10th with a time of 19:07.53, improving on her individual championship time at the Tennessee Tech Invite held four weeks ago on the same course by 14 seconds. She received All-OVC Second Team honors Senior Asenath NaAman followed in 20th place as the next highest Murray State finisher, completing the 5k course in 19:45.54. Junior Kayla Crusham was two spots back, running in 19:49.85 to place 22nd. Freshman Bernadette Catron placed 26th, running the course in 19:57.67. Junior Karissa Magnuson ran the course in 20:27.52 to finish in 36th. Junior Bridget Stichnot placed in 43rd with a time of 20:51.83 while junior Jami Kloenne completed the MSU team with a time of 21:06.43 to place 48th in the field of 75.
Eastern Kentucky took the individual team title, scoring the top three finishing positions and placing five runners in the top 10. Eastern Illinois finished second with three runners in the top 10. Jacksonville State placed fourth behind the Racers and were followed by Southeast Missouri in fifth, Tennessee Tech and Austin Peay in a tie for sixth, Tennessee-Martin in eight, Morehead State in ninth and Tennessee State in 10th..
Sophomore Derek Perry was the high finisher for the ninth-place finishing men's team, placing in 44th with a time of 28:32.88. Freshman Ryan Johnson was the next MSU entry, running in 29:00.72 to finish in 50th. Sophomore Jordan Althoff was seven spots back, finishing in 57th with a time of 29:46.83. Andy Pack was two spots back with a time of 29:55.81 to place 59th on the 8k course. Picasso Simmons (66th/31:36.07), Remi Domoney (69th/34:25.56) and Trent Scott (70th/37:44.48) rounded out the Racers' entries for the men.

They were followed by Southeast Missouri in second, Eastern Illinois in third, Morehead State in fourth, Austin Peay in fifth, Tennessee-Martin in sixth, Tennessee Tech in seventh, Jacksonville State in eighth with Tennessee State in 10th.
The Racers return to action in two weeks, traveling to the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky.
