FINAL RESULTS

The Murray State Rifle team won a shoulder-to-shoulder match against fellow Ohio Valley Conference school Jacksonville State by a 16-point margin Saturday at the Pat Spurgin Range in Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Ky.

The Racers won the match 4642-4626.

MSU Won the smallbore competition 2296-2299 and the air rifle portion 2343-2330.

“I was pleased with the effort we gave today,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. “It is always tough when we line up against JSU. They're a very good team and you have to be prepared to compete. I think we did that today.”

Emily Quiner led the Racers' assault on the target with a 587 in smallbore and a 591 in air rifle (600 is a perfect score) and Katie Cleven came home with a 575 and a 594 for the Racers.

“Katie and Emily really shined today,” Lollar said. “I can't say enough about the job they did today.”

Kyle Donnan shot another personal best 573 in smallbore, while Nehemiah Gillman had two solid scores of 575 in smallbore and 582 in air rifle. Mike Burzynski fired a 569 in smallbore and Caroline Barber shot a personal best with a 560 smallbore.

The Racers are off to a great start to the 2010-11 season with two wins and a second-place showing at the Ole Miss Invitational.

“We will take the opportunity to work on some things during the coming week off we have,” Lollar said. “Then prepare to travel to Lexington, to face Kentucky and Army. That weekend will be a test, and we always look forward to competing against the best.”
