Murray State sophomores Kaitlin Cleven and Emily Quiner were named the Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Athletes of the Month in an accouncement from the league office.
Cleven, from Greenleaf, Wisc., was named the OVC award winner for air rifle, while Quiner, from Brooklyn, Minn., was the smallbore winner.
“Emily just continues to shoot at a level that gives our team the chance to do some special things,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. “It is important to know that you have solid performers when the lights come on.”
“Katie showed up in the fall ready to pick up where she left off last year,” Lollar added. “Carrying one year into the next is a big part of improving in shooting. She has stepped up and along with Emily to give us a one-two punch that we need to compete at a high level.”
Cleven averaged a score of 592 (out of a possible 600) over seven matches. She set a new school record with a 596 to win the air rifle at West Virginia. She has led the team in air rifle in five of the seven matches this fall.
Quiner has recorded an average score of 582 in smallbore over seven matches for Murray State this fall. She posted a season-high score of 587 versus Jacksonville State, which also set a new school individual mark. Quiner has paced the Racers in smallbore in all but one match this year.
