Sauer Named OVC Defensive Player of the Week

Junior Kayleah Sauer earned her first Ohio Valley Conference weekly honor of the 2010 season in the final weekend of the regular season, as she was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week, for Nov. 15. Sauer becomes the only other Racers player to earn an honor this season, after junior Jade Guo was named OVC Setter of the Week five times during the year.
The Louisville, Ky., native led MSU with 38 digs over the weekend, including a 21-dig performance against Eastern Kentucky. Sauer recorded 6.33 digs per set which was above her season average of 4.17. She also added four assists and three service aces.
The Racers will be in action this week at the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Championship hosted by Morehead State in Morehead, Ky. The Racers, the No. 4 seed, will first battle with No. 5 Eastern Kentucky, Thursday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. (CST). A win would pit MSU against the No. 1 seed and host Eagles, Friday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m., with the championship match schedule for 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20.
