Racers Fall to Louisiana-Lafayette at Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic

The Racers (2-4) were led by junior Kayla Lowe and red-shirt freshman Jessica Winfrey, who each tallied 13 points. Lowe also added a team-high nine rebounds. Freshman Allison Karst also added a season-best 10 points, including a 2-for-2 mark from beyond the arc.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle for the first seven minutes when the Ragin' Cajuns went on a 4-0 run to take the lead. ULL held onto a 3-7 point lead from most of the half until Isom tied the game for the Racers at 27, with 4:35 remaining. MSU went on a 4-1 run over a two minute span to tie the game and kept it tied for the next two minutes, but the Ragin' Cajuns finished the final two minutes on a 7-0 run. The push gave ULL a 36-29 advantage heading into the locker room.
The Ragin' Cajuns came out ready to play in the second stanza and went on a 7-0 run over the first two minutes to increase their lead to 43-29. The Racers countered with a 6-0 run of their own, but ULL kept pushing the tempo of the game and built the advantage out to 20 points with 13 minutes left on the clock. MSU went on one final push with 4:30 left, but were only able to cut the disadvantage to 12 points, with eight of the points coming from Karst.
The Racers earned a rebounding advantage for the first time in three games, 53-43, including a 16-9 mark on the offensive side. The key for ULL was shooting, as the team combined for a 43.9 shooting percentage (29-of-66). MSU shot 33.8 percent (24-of-71) from the field and 26.1 percent from beyond the arc (6-of-23). The three-point shooting percentage for the Racers went up in the second half, from 18.8 to 42.9.
The Racers will continue their seven-game road trip next week with the opening games of the Ohio Valley Conference portion of the season. MSU will first battle with Eastern Kentucky (Dec. 2) before traveling on to face Morehead State (Dec. 4).
