The Racers were led by senior Becca Lamb, who tallied 12 kills and a .207 (12k-6e-29ta) hitting percentage. Junior Kayleah Sauer led the defense with 17 digs.
The teams traded the first eight points of the opening set before JSU took a quick 4-6 advantage. However, the Racers countered with a 4-0 run to take control of the scoreboard until late in the set. MSU pushed ahead even more with two more 3-0 runs and had a 17-12 advantage. The Gamecocks (14-13, 9-7 OVC) then closed the gap to two points, with a 3-0 run. The teams traded servers until the Racers went up 22-18 with a short run. JSU rallied and tied the set at 22, but MSU took control of the momentum and used a 3-0 run to end the set with a 25-22 win.
The second set saw the Gamecocks open up an early 0-3 lead and never let the Racers get closer than one point the rest of the set. JSU had a five-point advantage early in the set before MSU went on three 2-0 runs that cut the lead to one. However, the push was followed by a 6-0 Gamecocks' run that gave them the lead for good. JSU kept the momentum on its side of the net and earned the 15-25 win to tie the match at one-match a piece heading into the break.
The third set was a battle for control from the start to the finish. Both teams would take a small lead and then see a run by the other erase that advantage. The teams combined for 13 tie scores and five lead changes through the set. The final tie came at 22-all, before JSU went on a 3-0 run that resulted the 22-25 win.
The Racers took an early lead in the fourth set and kept adding to it with three-to-four point runs. MSU was leading 19-12 when the Gamecocks fought back and took control of the scoreboard with 12-2 run that gave them a 21-24 lead. The Racers would not go quietly though, and rallied back to forced extra points, with a 3-0 run. But it was not enough and JSU took a 24-26 win.
The Racers struggled to get their offense going in the match and tallied a hitting percentage below .200 for the first time in nine matches. MSU recorded a .150 (46k-25e-140ta) attack percentage, while the Gamecocks garnered a .235 (62k-26e-153ta). JSU also earned an 11-8 advantage in the blocking column and a 53-61 lead in digs.
