Murray State Rifle student-athlete Emily Quiner had an outstanding weekend at the 2010 Winter Air Rifle Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Quiner, a sophomore from Brooklyn Park, Minn., qualified for both the open and junior finals, and came home with eighth place finish in the open division and sixth place in the junior division.
She recorded a score of 385 the first day and then posted 390 and 392 in the second and third rounds.
At the end of qualifying, the top eight scores are lined up for a final ten shots.
The values of those shots, including decimal value, are added to their score to get the winner. This is the same format that is used to crown the NCAA Individual Champion in both smallbore and air rifle.
Quiner then shot the best score of the junior final with a 103.
"Emily performed very well this weekend,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. “The competition is very tough and it included juniors, college shooters and members of the USA Olympic Team. It is good experience and will serve her well down the road."
Emily Quiner and her MSU teammates begin the spring portion of their 2010-11 schedule, Jan. 15 and Jan. 17, when they host Mississippi and Nebraska at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Roy Stewart Stadium.
