Murray State was the winner of the NCAA qualifier Saturday at the Pat Spurgin Range hosted by the Racers in Murray, Ky.
The Racers shot a 4621 ahead of second place Jacksonville State at 4606.
MSU posted a 17 point win in smallbore, before JSU came back for a two point win in air rifle.
Emily Quiner had a great day with a 583 smallbore and a 587 air rifle, while Kasey Meyer was once again solid with a 573 smallbore and 584 air rifle. Ashley Rose and Caroline Barber scored a 573 smallbore and 582 air rifle respectively.
Daniel Sojka posted a 565 smallbore and 574 air rifle, while Kaitlin Cleven had a 582 in air rifle. Harley Jette shot a 566 smallbore, after battling a knee problem for the last week.
"We came into the match knowing we needed to post a good score," MSU head coach Alan Lollar said. "As a team we shot the average we carried in to the qualifier and to maintain that consistency and level of performance is something we strive for and I'm very proud of this whole team for what they were able to do today."
The Racers now wait for the final scores from the other qualifier sites from around the nation to see if they get one of eight spots in the NCAA finals March 12-13, at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. MSU was one of five teams competing for the last four slots at the championships heading into the weekend.
On Sunday, the second day of competition, MSU freshman Kyle Donnan posted personal bests in both guns with a 571 smallbore and 583 in air rifle.
"Kyle really did a great job today," Lollar said. "He has worked hard this year and has really improved how he handles match situations. He is getting some things figured out and could be a big part of this team in the future, if he continues to work."
