Racers Take Lead In First Round Of OVC Rifle Championship

Murray State won the smallbore portion of the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championship Saturday morning at the Pat Spurgin Range in Roy Stewart Stadium in Murray, Ky.

The Racers carded a 2273, four points in front of second place Jacksonville State with a 2269.

MSU's Kasey Meyer paced the Racer effort with a score of 577, while Emily Quiner had a 574. Daniel Sojka scored a 562, with Kaitlin Cleven finished at 560.

Morehead State's 2257 earned a spot in third place, with UT Martin Mixed had a 2252 for fourth place and the UT Martin Women's team was in fifth place at 2249. Tennessee Tech rounded out the field with a 2204.

Brian Carston and Andrea Dardas of Jacksonville State shared medalist honors each with 580.

The air rifle competition begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Spurgin Range where the OVC champion will be crowned.
