MSU Falls in OVC Women's Tennis Tournament Semifinals

The Murray State Racers lost 4-0 to Austin Peay in the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Tournament Saturday at The Larry Heflin Tennis Center in Paducah, Ky.
The Racers, the no. 6 seed in the event, were trying to pull off an upset for the second straight day against the no. 2 team after they defeated no. 3 UT Martin on Friday.
The all-important doubles point did not fall in the Racers favor in this semifinal match.
After MSU's no. 3 team of Alexis Webb/Lindsey Wiseman defeated APSU's Michelle Liew/Demi Georgakopoulos 8-1, the doubles competition was tied with the no. 2 match set to decide the point. MSU's Cassidy Cunitz/Lyndsay Ottosen lost a 9-7 heartbreaker to APSU's Carolin Weikard/Yuki Nakamura.
In singles play, MSU battled in several matches but were unable to come up with any wins.
MSU's no. 1, Angela McGahee dropped her match 6-3, 6-2 and no. 2 Alexis Webb fell in her match by the same score.
No. 3 Ashley Canty went down 6-4, 6-1 as did no. 5 Cassidy Cunitz 6-4, 6-1.
"Austin Peay just played great," MSU head coach Connie Keasling said. "We were up 7-6 in the final doubles match and when we lost that, we lost a lot of momentum."
"We fought hard today, but Austin Peay was a better team," Keasling added. "In this event, we got some very good tournament experience for our student-athletes that will be coming back next season/"
