Head Murray State Volleyball Coach David Schwepker announced the signing of Katlyn Hudson for the 2010 campaign. Hudson comes to Murray State from Columbus East High School in Columbus, Ind.
"We are really excited that Katlyn has decided to join our program," said head coach David Schwepker. "She is an outstanding libero and is exactly what we needed to fill the 'Big' shoes of Cassie Chesney. We are returning our entire team from last year and when we were healthy, we were very strong. So what we were looking for was someone who could come in and play outstanding defense from day one and Katlyn definitely has the ability to do that."
Hudson was a four year member of the varsity squad at Columbus East where she helped the team to three straight sectional championships and regional runner-up finishes. She was the Olympians Most Valuable Player in 2009 and finished the season as a Hoosier Hills All-Conference member. Hudson finished the season ranked fourth in the state in digs at 529 (6.3/gm).
While a prep, Hudson also participated in club volleyball for both Circle City in Plainfield, Ind., and Hoosierland Volleyball Club in Bloomington, Ind. In 2008, while with Circle City, she helped the team to a regional championship and a bid to the National 16-and-under tournament. She spent the next two seasons with Hoosierland and was instrumental in the team winning the 2010 regional title and going to the National 18-and-under tournament.
"Katlyn is one of the best liberos in the state of Indiana. She is a 'fiery' player that plays with a lot of enthusiasm," Schwepker added. "Academically, Katlyn is a great student and is going to definitely add to our already strong program."
