Soccer Returns Home For Weekend Doubleheader

The Murray State women's soccer team returns to Cutchin Field this weekend for a pair of non-conference matches, meeting Louisiana Tech Friday at 3:00 p.m. and Western Michigan Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
The Racers have struggled on the pitch as of late, having dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at home against IPFW and a 3-0 road loss at SIUE. Sophie Hargreaves moved into sixth place all-time in program history with her 16th career goal in the 88th minute against IPFW to send the match to overtime.
“Consistency is a big thing for attacking players, and there's nothing wrong with our attack, it's just finishing the shots we get,” head coach Beth Acreman said. “We've been struggling with our offense for much of the season, it's a morale killer when people get chances and don't put them away. We're working on putting in plays in pressure situations during training so they can be more successful in games.
“I think defensively we've been strong. We've let in goals and the results aren't showing it, but it's small errors and not major problems. When we limit those and correct some things on the attacking side of the ball we'll be fine.”
Louisiana Tech brings a five-match win streak into Friday's contest as the Lady Techsters most recently defeated Tennessee Tech 3-2 in overtime.
Louisiana Tech has outscored its opponents 24-8 this season and was ranked 24th in the nation in team scoring offense before its previous game, averaging 2.63 goals per game.
Western Michigan broke a four-match losing streak with a 5-0 win in its previous match against Northern Iowa. Five different players scored for the Broncos in the home shutout.
This is Murray State'asts first meeting with Louisiana Tech and Western Michigan.
“I think our losses l weekend are still coming from silly mistakes,” said Acreman said. “I wouldn't say that any part of our game needs any major overhaul, but we need to limit the mistakes that we've seen the first half of the season that are costing us games. We know we're under a little bit of pressure, we need to get some better results with just another week until conference.”
MSU opens 2010 Ohio Valley Conference action next week on the road, traveling to Eastern Kentucky Sept. 24 at 3:00 p.m. and Morehead State Sept. 26 at 12:00 p.m.
Free pizza and soda will be available to all Murray State students at Friday afternoon's match against Louisiana Tech.
