The Murray State women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 non-conference decision against Louisiana Tech Friday afternoon at Cutchin Field.
Trailing 1-0 in the second half, freshman Shauna Wicker scored her first collegiate goal in the 58th minute on a cross from the left side by teammate Rachel Longley. Wicker's header from 12 yards beat the LA Tech keeper into the upper-right corner of the goal.
The Racers (1-6-2) were unable to build on the momentum from the strike as the Lady Techsters (8-2) added goals in the 67th minute and with just over three minutes remaining in regulation to put the match out of reach.
“We were disappointed with the results today after the things we had worked on in practice coming into today's match,” head coach Beth Acreman said. “I was really happy for Shauna to get a goal, but we didn't build off the momentum from that and silly mistakes cost us again.”
MSU nearly took the lead in the trailing minutes of the first half off of a rainbow shot attempt from Danielle McMurray, but the ball struck the outstretched fingertips of the Tech's keeper's fingertips and ricocheted off of the top of the crossbar out of play.
The Racers close out weekend play on Sunday, meeting Western Michigan at Cutchin Field at 11:00 a.m. before hitting the road next weekend to open Ohio Valley Conference action at Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State.
