Softball Ranked 7th in OVC Preseason Poll

The Murray State softball team has been selected to finish seventh in the Ohio Valley Conference for the 2011 season in a vote conducted by the league's head coaches.
The Racers received 54 points with a first-place vote receiving 10 points. Jacksonville State, the 2010 OVC Championships winner, was named pre-season favorite, receiving 97 points and eight first-place votes. Tennessee Tech followed in second with two first-place votes and 80 total points. 2010 OVC regular season winner UT Martin was two points behind with 78 in third place. SIU Edwardsville ranked fourth with 68 points and SIU Edwardsville picked up the remaining first place vote to tie with Morehead State in fifth with 63 points. Southeast Missouri, Eastern Kentucky, Austin Peay and Tennessee State rounded out voting behind the Racers.
Head coach Jay Pyron returns 13 players from last season's team that compiled a 22-29 overall record and 11-11 OVC record in the program's inaugural season.
