Racers to Take on Flames in Windy City Showdown

The Murray State Racers are set to face off against the UIC Flames in a Missouri Valley Conference weekend series in Chicago, Illinois.
The series features significant implications in the MVC standings for both teams. Both are on the outside looking in for the six-team MVC tournament, as the Racers (13-17, 5-5 MVC) are in seventh, while the Flames (16-17-1, 5-7 MVC) are two games behind in eighth.
Last week saw the Racers split a conference doubleheader at Belmont before dropping a midweek game against ASUN foe Austin Peay. In the win over the Bruins, Allie Waldron finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate with five RBI and a pair of runs scored, while Bre Haislip got the win in the circle after pitching five innings in relief, allowing three earned runs and striking out three. Waldron added another pair of hits and a run, and Ailey Schyck hit her third homer of the season in the loss to Austin Peay the following day.
Kynadee Warner leads the Racers at the plate with a .354 batting average and 35 hits, while Allie Waldron is right behind, hitting .345 with a 1.010 OPS and leading the team with eight doubles and 16 RBI. Waldron is tied with Bailey Broemmer and Ailey Schyck to lead the team with three home runs on the season. Warner is one of two Racers with over 10 stolen bases on the season, with 11 steals on 15 attempts, while Katy Huels leads the team with 12 steals on 13 attempts. Huels and Warner are fourth and fifth in the MVC in stolen bases on the season.
Bre Haislip (5-5) leads the team with a 3.13 ERA and 46 strikeouts across 78 1/3 innings. The senior has pitched three complete games across 19 appearances and features a 1.29 WHIP. Karlye Graber (5-4) also features a 1.29 WHIP with a 3.79 ERA across 68 1/3 innings. Across 22 appearances, the sophomore has 44 strikeouts. The Racers have the fourth-best team ERA in the MVC at 4.23.
Scouting the Flames
Murray State holds a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series between the Racers and Flames, including five of the last six and two of three in the 2025 series. Head coach Megan Coronado is in her first year at the helm of the Flames following stops at Texas State and UT Arlington as an assistant. The Flames are led at the plate by Sam Tourtillott with a .366 batting average, Cameran Rios with 37 hits, and Siena Stickney and Larissa Ortiz with 25 RBI each. Jasmine Whorley features a team-low 4.61 ERA and is third in the MVC in wins with a pitching record of 12-7. The California native has 52 strikeouts across 112 1/3 innings pitched. Trinity Brandhorst (4-5) has a 7.04 ERA across 62 2/3 innings and 24 strikeouts on the year.
