The Murray State Racers came out of the gate Saturday with a 35-9 run and rode it to a 96-58 win over Southeast Missouri State at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.
On the day when many former men's basketball players and coaches came back to campus for a reunion, the current edition of the Racers showed what they have.
The Racers (13-6, 6-3 OVC), who had no field goals in the final 10 minutes of Thursday loss to Eastern Illinois, exploded against the Redhawks making nine shots in the first part of the game, five from three point range.
Isaiah Canaan made two quick three pointers, followed by bonus jumpers from Isacc Miles and B.J. Jenkins and MSU had a 23-6 lead only 6:20 into the game.
Jewuan Long, who led MSU with 15 points, scored and Ivan Aska made a three-point play and MSU had a 35-9 lead at 8:16 when Donte Poole scored.
The half time lead was 51-27, making it the second lowest score for an opponent this season behind the 22 East Tennessee State scored at the CFSB Center on opening night (Nov. 15).
MSU started the second half with a 24-18 segment to push out to a 30-point advantage with 9:36 remaining.
After Long's 15, Aska scored 14 points with 13 from Ed Daniel and 11 from Canaan as 11 different Racers made it in the scoring column.
MSU won the battle of the boards 45-35 and forced the Redhawks into 23 turnovers.
