Cross Country Ends Regular Season At Evansville Invitational

Murray State cross country enters its final event of the season before the OVC Championships, running this weekend at the Evansville Invitational in Evansville, Ind.
MSU has competed in the event held at the Evansville cross country course the previous six years, pulling out a team win on the women's side in 2009 and a second place finish in 2010.
The Racers will be competing against 12 different teams from around the area, including OVC members Morehead State, Southeast Missouri and Tennessee Tech.
“This week has been what I like to call a character building week,” head coach Jenny Severns said. “ The last three weeks of the season have been the hardest for our workouts. If you can push hard when you're as tired as you are going into Saturday, then you know you can push hard when you feel good going into the OVC Championships.”
The Murray State women are coming off a third place finish in the Blue race two weeks ago at the Greater Louisville Classic. The Racers had a number of runners finish the day with season-best times including Rebecca Hbetamu, Carolyne Tanui and Anne Jablinski running sub-19 minute times for the first time all season.
Chase Darnell was the high finish on the men's side, running a season-best time of 30:11.5 for the Racers.
“Our motto this year has been the team that runs the hardest when it hurts is the team that's going to win,” Severns said. “ We wanted to start practicing that at Louisville and they all ran hard. They went out hard and finished hard across the board. I couldn't have been happier and it was great to finish ahead of the other OVC teams in our race.”
Murray State travels to Richmond, Ky., in two weeks for the OVC Championships, hosted by Eastern Kentucky.
