Cross Country Runs at 2011 OVC Championships

Murray State cross country completed the Ohio Valley Conference portion of the 2011 schedule Saturday afternoon, running in the 2011 OVC Championships at the Arlington Club in Richmond, Ky. The MSU women placed 5th in the 5k, with the men placing 10th in the 8k.
Carolyne Tanui earned All-OVC Second Team honors for 2011 with the top finish on the day for the Racers. Her time of 18:37.23 was eighth overall in the field of 75 runners. Kayla Crusham was the second-highest MSU entry, placing 23rd in her final time at the OVC Championships with a time of 19:07.19. Brittany Bohn was two spots back in 25th, crossing the finish line at 19:12.53. Anne Jablinski was the first of three Racers to place within four spots of each other, running in 19:29.01. Abbie Oliver, recording the fifth and final Murray State team result, was a pair of spots behind in 31st at 19:34.99 with Rebecca Hbetamu a spot back in 32nd at 19:35.75. Anna Grimes (20:32.81) in 52nd and Jamie Kloenne (20:50.24) in 56th wrapped up the eight Murray State entries in the event.
Lydia Kosgei of Eastern Kentucky was the individual champion, winning by 17 seconds with a time of 17:43.69. Eastern Illinois took home the women's team championship, placing its five runners who recorded team points all in the top-14.
Chase Darnell ran the fastest time of the morning for the MSU men, completing the 8k circuit in 29:59.27 to place 61st. Reid Thomas was second for the Racers, placing 68th in 21:10.00. They were followed in succession by Trent Scott (71st / 33:52.24), Renaldo Domoney (72nd / 35:40.46), Zack Calvert (73rd / 37:19.35) and Luka Milicevic (74th / 38:23.88).
Soufiane Bouchikhi of Eastern Kentucky took the individual championship in the men's race with a time of 24:54.83. EKU also won the men's team championship, taking five of the top six places.
Murray State XC returns in two weeks for the final event of the season, running in the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky.
