Murray State soccer closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule early this week when the Racers travel to Huntsville, Ala., for a 3 p.m. contest against Southwest Conference member Alabama A&M.
The Racers are coming off of a tough 2-1 loss at home against Austin Peay. MSU took an early 1-0 lead on Julie Mooney's seventh minute goal, the team's quickest to open a match all season. A pair of successfully completed penalty kicks conceded to Austin Peay in the final 12 minutes of the second half cost the Racers a chance at their first Ohio Valley win of the season.
MSU took the game between the teams last year early in the season at Cutchin Field, winning on an overtime goal 29 seconds into the third period. The Racers out-shot A&M 30-6 overall in the match, scoring on their first attempt in the 91st minute.
Alabama A&M enters Monday's action seeking its first win of the season. The Bulldogs will be playing their third game in four days, hosting Jackson State in a 2-0 loss and playing Southern Sunday afternoon. Celeste Roberts and Joice Avila have one goal each on the season to lead A&M.
The Racers jump back in to Ohio Valley Conference action at the end of this coming week, traveling to Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State as three weeks remain in the OVC schedule.
