Racers Host Annual Rebate Day at The Big Apple Café

For the fourth straight season the Murray State volleyball team will be hosting Swinging To Eliminate Cancer, a fundraiser to help those affected by cancer. As part of the annual fundraiser the Racers will be at The Big Apple Café Monday, Oct. 10 for their annual Rebate Day.
Patrons can place their check in the receipt box near the register at any time during the day and 10% of their check will be given to the MSU volleyball team for the fundraiser. Members of the Racers squad will be on hand from 6-9 p.m. to help the wait staff clear tables, refill drinks and answer any questions that patrons have about the fundraiser. Student-athletes and staff on hand will also be accepting donations.
For the second-straight season the team will be raising money to help close to home, teaming up with Murray-Calloway County Regional Cancer Center. All the funds raised will now go to the MCCRCC in honor of Kendra Schwepker, the wife of MSU head volleyball coach David Schwepker.
“It was important to me and the team to be able to help those in need in the local area,” said head coach David Schwepker. “When my wife Kendra was diagnosed with a brain tumor six years ago the community rallied around us to help and we want to make sure that we help others in the same way. When the opportunity arose for us to give back to the community that supported us there wasn't a moment's hesitation on the team.”
This year's Swinging To Eliminate Cancer event will take place, Oct. 14-15 when MSU hosts Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky in Racer Arena, Homecoming Weekend. Donations will be accepted through the weekend and can be given to any member of the team or volleyball staff. Those wishing to make donations can make a flat donation or can chose to make a donation per attack attempt recorded by both teams in both matches over the weekend. Last year the total number of attempts in the two matches was around 550, but could be lower or higher depending on the number of sets played in each match.
In the past three years the Racers have raised over $9500 for local and national cancer charities.
