Racers Card High Scores At NCAA Qualifier

Final Results
Qualifying for the NCAA Rifle Championships is a two part process.
The first part is a regular season qualifier average (Derived by averaging the three highest regular season team aggregate scores, and no two can be at the same location)which is 50% of final number. Part two is the other 50%, which is the team score shot in the qualifier..
The Racers went into the weekend with the fourth highest regular season score in the nation.
They went into the match with a qualifying score of 4663.33. On Saturday morning they shot a 4663, with a 2312 smallbore and 2351 air rifle.
“I am very proud of this team,” MSU Coach Alan Lollar said. “What they have done this year has not been easy.”
“Consistency throughout the season is important. We strive for this consistency and this year we were able to accomplish that goal.”
The NCAA Qualifier was also the first match that teams are required by rule to start the same five shooters in both guns, like the NCAA Championships.
Last week at the OVC Championships and this week with the qualifier was MSU's first real taste of championship pressure and they performed well.
“We went in with a 4663 average, and shot a 4663,” Lollar said. “You've heard me talk about consistency of championship effort all year long. I think that says it all.”
The Murray State smallbore scores included: Emily Quiner (585), Katie Cleven (577), Nehemiah Gillman (577) and Ashley Rose (573). MSU air rifle scores were: Gillman with a personal best (593), Cleven (592), Quiner (587) and Rose (579).
Individuals for MSU, not included in the team score were: Mikey Burzynski (574) smallbore (577) air rifle, both personal bests for the freshman, while Bill Harvey had (567) smallbore and (562) air rifle and Kyle Donnan (577) each gun.
“Mikey had a great day, I'm really glad for him,” Lollar added. “Bill also had a solid performance. You can see the improvement and they are setting themselves up for a good spring training season and summer of improvement. Kyle had a solid smallbore day, he has worked hard and improved this year.
The Murray State Rifle team hosted an NCAA Qualifier and National Rifle Association Sectional over the weekend at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range in Murray, Ky.
MSU hopes to gain a spot in the NCAA Championships held in Columbus, Ga., March 11-12. After all teams completed qualifying, the NCAA Rifle Committee will review results and official invitations to the championships will be announced in the next week .
