The Murray State Racers brought home their second straight Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championship Sunday when they won the title in Jacksonville, Ala.
The win marked the 10th in the history of the MSU program.
MSU won the smallbore competition on Saturday with a 2321 and came back with a 2340 Sunday in the air field portion of the competition for a total of 4661, ahead of second place Jacksonville State at 2341.
"We knew it would not be easy, JSU is always a tough opponent,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. ” They came out strong in the first air rifle relay and our lead from smallbore pretty much was gone."
On the second relay, MSU saw Kaitlin Cleven and Nehemiah Gillman post a pair of 591 scores. MSU also got a 580 from Caroline Barber, a 578 from Ashley Rose and a 567 from Emily Quiner.
“Your best performance when your best is needed,” Lollar added. ” That's the way you define champion. This was a team effort. When one was down, the others stepped up. I'm really proud of all of them."
The OVC event marked MSU's third score this season of more than 4660.
