Breds improve to 7-7 on the season

Murray Stat left hander Jake Donze allowed just a bloop single in the first inning in his five innings of work, and relievers Curran McNeely and Tyler Saltsman combined to allow just an infield single as the Breds completed a doubleheader sweep of IPFW with a 9-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Reagan Field.
Donze (2-0) needed only 52 pitches to cruise through his five innings. He allowed a bloop single to the second batter of the game and a dropped fly ball to start the second inning. From that point on, Donze did not allow another base runner as he retired the next 12 hitters he faced, including getting the final two hitters on strikes.
McNeely pitched a hitless sixth inning, striking out one, and Saltsman gave up a one-out infield single in his only inning of work.
The Breds (7-7) broke a scoreless tie in a major way in the third inning as they sent 13 hitters to the plate and took advantage of four Mastadon errors to push across nine runs in the frame. With the bases loaded and one out, Brandon Eggenschwiler drew a bases loaded walk to score the first run of the game. Paul Ritzheimer followed with a run-scoring through the left side. An error on the left fielder allowed a second run to score on the play. Following a wild pitch, Ty Stetson drove in both runners with a single up the middle.
With two outs, Elliot Frey was hit by a pitch and scored on Zach Noonan's two run double to left center. Brandon Elliott followed with a chopper to third that was thrown up the first-base line, allowing Noonan to score and Elliott to go to third. When the throw across the diamond got away from the third baseman, Elliott was able to score.
Noonan led the offense by going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Stetson also drove in a pair of runs, while Elliott scored a pair of runs.
Parker Moorman (0-1) took the loss after allowing one run on two hits over two innings.
The two teams close out the weekend series tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m.
