Breds Capitalize on Error to Take First Game of Doubleheader

Eggenschwiler goes 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs
Murray State took advantage of a dropped fly ball in the third inning as they pushed across two unearned runs on their way to a 5-3 victory over IPFW in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Breds (6-7) got things going in the first inning as Zach Noonan drew a leadoff walk and went to second on Brandon Elliott's bunt single up the first-base line. Following a sacrifice bunt from Tavis Isaak, Jacob Rhodes drove in a run with a groundout to shortstop. Brandon Eggenschwiler followed with a run-scoring double to right center.
The Mastadons (2-4) got their offense going in the third inning as they got RBI doubles from Garrett Seagraves and A.J. Christensen, with a sacrifice fly from Kurt Dudley sandwiched in between.
MSU responded in the home-half of the inning with Elliott singling to center and going to third when Isaak's high fly ball to deep left field was dropped, putting runners on second and third. Rhodes drove in Elliott with a groundout to second, before Eggenschwiler drove in the second run with a single to right field.
A two-out rally in the fifth helped the Breds extend the lead. Eggenschwiler started things with a single up the middle and Paul Ritzheimer walked. Ty Stetson plated the runner with a single to right field.
Tyler Beers (2-1) picked up the victory after allowing three runs on eight hits and five strikeouts over six innings. Cameron Finch (2) earned the save after allowing one hit and striking out one in his one inning of work. Lucas Kesterson (0-2) took the loss after allowing five runs, three earned, on six hits over five innings.
Eggenschwiler led the offense by going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Elliott went 3-for-4 and scored two runs, while Rhodes drove in a pair.
The two teams play the second game of the doubleheader approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
