NCAA Rifle Championship - Racers Bring Fifth-Place Finish Home

NCAA Rifle Final Results
The Racers won fifth place on a tie breaker with Alaska-Fairbanks, while Navy (4609) and Army (4596) rounded out the eight-team field at the NCAA event.
Kentucky won the title with a score of 4700, while West Virginia (4697), Texas Christian (4664) and Jacksonville State (4650) made up the top-4.
When the awards were handed out at the conclusion of the championship, the Racers were well represented.
In smallbore, Emily Quiner was named NCAA First Team All-America, while Kaitlin Cleven and Nehemiah Gillman were awarded honorable mention status. Cleven was then named NCAA First Team All-America in air rifle and Gillman earned another spot on the honorable mention team.
The Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association also handed out academic awards where Gillman, Rose and Bill Harvey were all named Academic All-America.
The Murray State Racers finished fourth in the air rifle competition of the NCAA Rifle Championships in Columbus, Ga., and brought home and aggregate score of 4634 to earn an overall fifth-place finish in the race for the national championship.
"I am proud of our team and what we have accomplished this year,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. “We came to the championships and battled. I think we learned that anything can happen. You have to be ready when an opportunity presents itself. The NCAA Championships are the best competition there is. It's an honor to get there and this year we came out two places higher than last year."
In Saturday's air rifle competition, the Racers were led by Kaitlin Cleven who scored 1169, while Emily Quiner carded an 1160. Nehemiah Gillman recorded an 1156 with Ashley Rose at 1148 and Kyle Donnan at 1147.
