Noonan delivers third home run of the season
Georgia State pushed across three runs in the seventh and eighth innings to break a tie game and hand Murray State an 11-6 defeat Saturday afternoon at The Field at Panthersville in Atlanta, Ga.
The Panthers (17-4) got on the board in the second inning as Ryan Fleming led off the inning with a home run to right center. Following a walk and a double to left center, Bryan Condotta drove in the second run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Breds (8-10) tied the game in the third as Travis Isaak singled up the middle and later scored on Zach Noonan's two-run blast to left center, his third of the season.
MSU pushed across two runs in the fourth, without the virtue of a base hit. The inning started with walks to Cody Larson and Wes Warren. After a sacrifice bunt from Elliot Frey, Ty Stetson drove in a run with a groundout to the right side. The second run of the inning scored when Travis Isaak's grounder to short was misplayed.
GSU rallied with two outs in the fifth to regain the lead as a pair of singles were followed by a three-run home run to right field off the bat of Fleming.
The Breds tied the game in the seventh with a two-out rally of their own. Noonan drew a walk and went to third on Brandon Eggenscwiler's single up the middle. Cody Larson drove in the runner from third with a single through the right side.
The Panthers quickly regained the lead in the home-half of the inning as they got an RBI groundout followed by run-scoring singles from Joey Wood and Theo Asher. They followed it up in the eighth with an RBI double from Maxwell and a two-run single from Brandon Williams.
The Breds got a run in the ninth as Travis Isaak doubled to right center and later scored on Noonan's RBI double to right center.
Tyler Beers (2-2) took the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings. Nick Squeglia (2-1) earned the victory in relief after allowing a run on two hits in his one inning of work. Jake Dyer (3) picked up the save with a run on two hits over the final two innings.
Noonan led the offense by going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Isaak and Larson each added a pair of hits.
The two teams close out the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
