MSU hosts North Dakota State in four-game weekend series

Arkansas State scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a tie ballgame and hand Murray State a 5-1 defeat Wednesday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Red Wolves (3-6) started the ninth inning by loading the bases on a pair of singles and a walk. Anthony Hecht plated the game-winning runs with a two-run double down the left-field line. Tyler Smith followed with a run-scoring bloop single to right field, with the final run scoring on a double-play groundout.
The Red Wolves got on the board in the first inning as Todd Baumgartner started the game with a single through the left side and stole second. Following a passed ball, Michael George scored the run with a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Breds (2-6) tied the game in the eighth as Drew Pixley drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on back-to-back sacrifice bunts from Elliot Frey and Ty Stetson. Brandon Elliott made the strategy pay off with a run-scoring single up the middle.
MSU got a strong start from left hander Bryan Babin, who allowed just one unearned run on four hits and five strikeouts over seven innings. Will Handlin (1-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in one inning of work.
Cory Kyle (1-0) picked up the victory in relief after allowing one run on one hit over 1.2 innings. ASU starter Cody Woodhouse allowed one run on three hits in his collegiate debut.
Brandon Eggenschwiler led the offense by going 2-for-4. Elliot drove in the only run for the Breds and had reached safely in all seven games he has played this season.
The Breds return to action Friday afternoon as they begin a four-game series with North Dakota State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Reagan Field.
