Rhodes and Frey each collect two hits

A Murray State fielding error helped Austin Peay push across three runs in the fourth inning as the Governors handed the Breds a 5-2 defeat in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Govs (10-10, 1-0 OVC) got on the board in the third inning as Tyler Childress doubled just inside the bag a third and scored on Matt Wollenzin's single up the middle. A balk moved the runner to second and Jon Clinard delivered a one-out RBI single to center.
The Breds (8-13, 0-1 OVC) came back with a two-out rally in the home-half of the inning to tie the game. Wes Warren started the inning with a double to left field. Ty Stetson was hit by a pitch and a fielder's choice put runners on the corners with two outs. Travis Isaak followed with an RBI single to right field and Jacob Rhodes singled to left field to score Brandon Elliott from second.
APSU regained the lead in the fourth inning as an error led to a run-scoring single off the bat of Greg Bachman, and a two-run home run to left field from Childress.
Tyler Beers (2-3) took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned over 3.1 innings. Jeremy Dobbs (5-0) picked up the victory after allowing two runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings. Ryne Harper (2) earned the save after allowing a hit and striking out two in one inning of work.
Luke Shuemaker kept the Breds close in his first relief appearance of the season as he did not allow a run and struck out three over 3.2 innings.
Rhodes led the offense by going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Frey added a pair of hits for the Breds.
The two teams will play the second game of the doubleheader approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
