Murray State senior left hander Jake Donze tossed his second complete game of the season as he allowed just six hits in helping the Breds to a 3-2 victory over Austin Peay Sunday afternoon in the second game of an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader at Reagan Field.
Donze (3-1) allowed just a single run in the second and fifth innings, walking only one and striking out a pair. He retired the final nine hitters he faced in order, throwing 65 of his 95 pitches for strikes.
The biggest play of the game came in the fourth inning as APSU drew a walk and singled with two outs. The next batter looked to deliver an RBI single to left field, but Ty Stetson came up throwing and nailed the runner at the plate as Jacob Rhodes held on after the collision at the plate.
The Govs (10-11, 1-1 OVC) got on the board in the second inning as a pair of singles and a sacrifice bunt put two runners in scoring position for Michael Blanchard to deliver a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Breds (9-13, 1-1 OVC) got the offense going in the third inning as they strung together five singles to push across three runs. Elliot Frey started the rally with a one-out single to left field. Stetson beat out an infield single, and Brandon Elliott drove in Frey with a single down the left-field line. Travis Isaak followed with a run-scoring single through the left side. Zach Noonan plated the third run of the inning with a single through the left side to score Elliott.
APSU got a run back in the fifth as Reed Harper doubled to left center and later scored on John Hogan's sacrifice fly to left field.
Jack Snodgrass (0-3) took the loss after allowing three runs on right hits over 3.2 innings.
Stetson and Isaak each collected two hits as the Breds collecting eight singles in the game.
The Breds return to the diamond Tuesday afternoon as they play host to Southern Illinois at 3 p.m. at Reagan Field.
