The Racers (6-11, 2-2 OVC) lost the doubles point after going down to the wire to decide the point. MSU and UTM were tied with one win each and the Racers were leading 7-4 in No. 3 doubles. However, MSU allowed the Skyhawks to fight back and force a tie-breaker before conceding the point.
“Losing the doubles point was the turning point for us today,” said head coach Connie Keasling. “If you get up like we were you have to finish, especially on the road. We didn't accomplish that today and that set the tone for the rest of the match.”
Sophomore Ashley Canty then started the singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles to tie the score are one. The only other point that MSU was able to win was by senior Alexis Webb. However, she was the final singles match to finish when she defeated Anna Winkelmann 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. During the span the Skyhawks were able to pick up four points to earn the overall win.
MSU returns home for the annual Senior Day, Saturday, April 2 against Southeast Missouri. The Senior Day festivities will start at 1:30 p.m. at Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts, with the match scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The Racers will honor seniors Webb and Lindsey Wiseman.
