Racers Host Eastern Kentucky in Important OVC Series

GAME NOTES
Murray State softball hosts Eastern Kentucky in a crucial OVC match up against Eastern Kentucky April 21-22. Games both days are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
The Racers currently sit tied for seventh in the OVC with Tennessee Tech at 7-13 and are 2.5 games back of Morehead State at 9-12 for the sixth and final spot in the OVC Championships.
The Racers took two of three from EKU in 2010, opening in Richmond, Ky., with
a 5-0 shutout victory and winning the series wint a 14-4 win after dropping the midle game 2-0. Lauren Buch led the Racers with three hits, five runs and three RBI as Chelsey Sullivan and Shelby Kosmeci each earned wins.
The Colonels enter the weekend struggling, having lost their last nine games.
Shyenne Hussey leads four EKU players hitting above .300 with a .385 average in
40 starts this season. Raquel Howes is the big power threat, having homered nine
times this season with 36 RBI. Noelani Esperas leads the pitching staff with a 3.82 ERA in 106.1 innings.
The Racers pounded Alabama State for 19 runs in a doubleheader victory, picking up a pair of 9-0 and 10-4 wins. Stephanie Edwards drove in six runs and homered twice on the day as the Racers went yard a total of five times. Jenna Bradley, Taylor Wilson and Ellyn Troup each hit one home run for MSU. Shelby Kosmecki earned her seventh win of the season, shutting down the Hornets with eight strikeouts in five innings. She allowed just two baserunners on a hit and hit-by-pitch and walked none. Leslie Bridges won her first game at the college level, tossing three innings of relief and striking out five with no hits or walks after entering to start the fifth inning in a 10-4 win.
STRIKEOUT CANCER
Murray State softball and Gatti's Pizza will be teaming up on April 26 as the Racers take on Mid Continent to raise money for the fight against cancer. Donations can be made on a per strikeout basis or flat amount with all proceeds going towards research and development for the fight against breast cancer.
