Racers Travel To SIUE Cross Country Challenge

Murray State cross country hits the road for the second event of the season this weekend, traveling to Edwardsville, Ill., for the SIUE Cross Country Challenge.
The Racers will be running against OVC competition for the first time this season, as host SIU Edwardsville and Southeast Missouri join with Washington University in St. Louis , McKendree and Western Illinois to form the six team field.
The MSU women are looking for another strong outing this week after picking up a fifth place finish two weeks ago at the Memphis Twilight Classic. Rebecca Hbetamu led the Racers with a 22nd place finish in her first time running with MSU. Anne Jablinski, Abbie Oliver and Kayla Crusham also earned top-40 finishes in a solid night that kicked off the 2011 Murray State season.
"We're going up against five good schools this weekend and are expecting to see a lot of quality competition," head coach Jenny Severns said . "This time of year is more about training hard and getting in the workouts that we need instead of placing in a certain spot. We're a little tired going into this meet, and I want to see how they respond to that, how hard they can push when they're tired.”
Jordan Althoff as the first one to cross the finish line on the men's side, completing the four mile course in 24:39.92 to finish 164th. He was followed by Chase Darnell, Reid Thomas, Trent Scott and Zach Calvert.
