The Racers battled back to tie the set at nine and the teams then traded serves until the score was again tied at 13. However, Sauer then stepped back to the service line and used two service aces to spark an 8-0 run by MSU that gave them a 20-13 lead. JSU cut the deficit to three (20-17), but it was not enough as the Racers earned the 25-20 win.
Set two was again a battle at the start. With the score tied at seven, the Gamecocks went on a 4-0 run to take the lead. MSU battled back with small runs throughout the set to again force a tie at 19, but JSU followed with another 3-0 run to take the lead back for good and earned the 25-21 win.

MSU then went on a 4-0 run to take a 20-17 win and didn't let JSU get closer than two points the rest of the set on their way to earn a 25-21 win.
The fourth set saw nine ties and five lead changes. MSU took a 10-7 advantage, but JSU then went on an 8-1 run to regain the lead (14-11). The Racers tied the set again at 16 and the teams battled through until a tie at 22. The Gamecocks took a 3-0 lead at the start of the fifth set and never let the Racers get closer than two points the rest of the way on their way to a 15-11 win.
The box score was close in most categories, but JSU earned key advantages in service aces and blocking to help them earn the win. The Gamecocks tallied nine blocks to the Racers five and landed eight service aces to MSU's four.
The Racers will now have a week off to get ready for their next match of the year at UT Martin, Saturday, Oct. 1. MSU and the Skyhawks will battle at 2 p.m. in Skyhawk Fieldhouse. The Racers will then return home to host SIU Edwardsville, Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. in Racer Arena.
