Racers Reach Halfway Point Saturday At Greater Louisville Classic

Murray State cross country returns to action at its largest event of the season, running Saturday morning at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
The Racers will compete against 35 other schools in the women's blue race at 11:30, with the men racing against competitors from 41 schools in the silver race at noon. The Racers are the only OVC school running in the men's race, while the women will see five OVC institutions. All events will be held at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park, the same site of the NCAA Southeast Regional in six weeks.
“I'm excited to see the OVC schools this weekend,” head coach Jenny Severns said. “The girls had a little bit of a slower week coming in to Louisville, but we're still training very hard. The last two weeks have been the hardest of the season. We're still gearing up towards our final goal of the OVC Championships and NCAA Regionals.”
Morehead State, UT Martin, SIU Edwardsville, Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri are all scheduled to be participating along with the Racers Saturday morning. Eastern Kentucky is also running at Louisville, but will be running in a separate race.
Murray State comes into its third events of the season having placed four different runners in the top two. Having come in to the season with pack running in mind, the Racers look to use the same strategy this weekend.
“I wouldn't be surprised to see someone have a breakout performance,” Severns said. “Right now pack running is their comfort zone and it's how we're doing well. One of these times someone is going to break out and have a big performance.”
