Racers Close Homestand Sunday Against Austin Peay

Murray State soccer looks to earn its first conference win of the season Sunday afternoon, closing out a three-game home stand against OVC opponents against Austin Peay. Kick off at Cutchin Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Racers ended action last week with a 3-0 loss against Southeast Missouri in a game delayed a day due to thunderstorms. They began last weekend with a 2-2 draw in double overtime in the OVC opener against UT Martin, scoring a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation to earn a point in the standings. Jillian Russell was involved in both scores, tallying her first goal of the season by cleaning up a ball that deflected off of the left goal post, and assisting on Shauna Wicker's third goal of the season with a low cross to the center of the box.
The Racers and Lady Govs met twice last season, playing once in regular conference action and in the first round of the OVC Championships. The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first meeting, and Austin Peay eliminated MSU from OVC postseason play in a 1-0 contest. Murray State still holds a 7-3-1 overall series lead.
APSU enters Sunday's match also looking for its first conference win of the season. The highest scoring team in the OVC with 3.18 goals per game, they lost twice last weekend, falling to Southeast Missouri 3-1 and UT Martin 2-0. Tatiana Ariza leads 6-5 Austin Peay in scoring this season with 11 goals and six assists and is the OVC leader in both categories.
The Racers step out of conference play following Sunday's action, traveling to Huntsville, Ala. after a week off for a non-conference match against Alabama A&M at 3 p.m. Oct. 10.
