Women's Cross Country Picks Up Fifth Place Finish In Memphis

Running in its first event of the season, the Murray State women's cross country earned a fifth place finish out of 25 teams Saturday night at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic.
The Racers improved three spots from their 2010 finish after placing eighth in the event one year ago.
Rebecca Hbetamu turned in the top time for MSU, completing the course in 19:16.78 to finish 22nd overall. Anne Jablinski was nine spots back, running in 19:32.93 in 31st. Abbie Oliver and Kayla Crusham were close behind in 34th and 36th, scoring times of 19:41.90 and 19:46.26, respectively. Carolyne Tanui crossed the finish line the fifth and final Racer to count towards the team score, placing 41st with a time of 19:55.18. Brittany Bohn followed in 46th, completing the 5k course in 0:00.98. Anna Grimes crossed the finish line in 88th with a time of 21:02.19 and Jami Kloenne rounded out the Murray State contingent at 21:56.83 to finish 124th.
"I am really pleased with how everyone competed today," head coach Jenny Severns said. "We improved on our finish from last year with a lot of new faces. Anne Jablinksi and Abby Oliver worked really well together."
Jordan Althoff was the first one to cross the finish line on the men's side, completing the four mile course in 24:39.92 to finish 164th. Chase Darnell was five spots back in 169th, finishing in 25:01.33. Reid Thomas was around half a minute back, completing the circuit in 25:36.93 to place 176th. Trent Scott placed 185th, scoring a time of 27:10.09, and Zack Calvert rounded out the five man group, finishing 197th with a time of 29:34.97.
The Racers return to action in two weeks, competing in the SIUE Cross Country Challenge.
