Cross Country Sets Multiple Career Bests on Saturday

The Murray State women's cross country team had eight runners set new career-bests in their two races ran on Saturday and the men had a career and season-best set during their race.
The Racer women ran at the Pre-NCAA meet in Louisville and also had four runners run in Owensboro, Ky., for the Kentucky Wesleyan Fast Cats Invitational. The MSU men sent its team to the Fast Cats invite as well.
At the Pre-NCAA's, Abigail Ashbee-Simmonds set a new career-best in the 6K, running a time of 21:50.5 and pacing the Racers with an 18th-place finish. The time set a new program record at MSU in the 6K. Carolyne Tanui set a career-high and third-fastest time in school history with a time of 22:27.7 and finished 61st. Rebecca Hbetamu also had a season-high time of 22:37.4, and finished 78th.
Abbie Oliver (23:12.6), Brittany Bohn (23:34.6), Leah Krause (24:20.2), Bridget Stichnot (24:36.6) and Jacquelyn Thate (25:17.3) all set new career-bests on Saturday in Louisville. Anna Grimes ran a time of 24:09.7, which is a season high for her. As a team, the Racers finished 12th out of 26 teams.
At the Fast Cats Invite, Abby Baker and Heatherly Paschall set new career-bests with times of 20:30.50 and 23:33.90, respectively in their 5K races. Baker placed 40th while Paschall finished in 53rd. Sara Davis ran in her first collegiate meet and finished with a time of 21:38.80. Kimmy Siebert ran a time of 26:16.90 to round out the times for MSU.
The Murray State men placed 7th as a team at the invite in its 8K race. Jarred Koerner led the Racers with a time of 28:20.80 and finished 33rd. Jordan Althoff placed 42nd and ran a time of 28:44.40. James Chute, Lucas Prather and Clayton Hall finished in the 60s for the Racers, running times of 30:09.60, 30:42.30 and 31:01, respectively. Will Elledge ran a time of 33:07.80 and placed 78th.
Griffin Kelley set a new career-best with a time off 33:47.40 for the Racers, while Zach Calvert's time of 35:21.10 was a season-best for him.
Murray State will take next week off in preparation for the OVC Championships on Oct. 27 hosted by Jacksonville State.
