The Murray State volleyball team fell to 3-13 overall and 1-5 in the OVC on Saturday afternoon when it was swept by Southeast Missouri, 3-0, at Houck Field House in Cape Girardeau.

The Racers stayed with the Redhawks (14-7 OVC, 6-0) in the first set, even taking an 11-8 lead over the home team midway through the set. Despite the early lead, the match continued to go back and forth with the Racers trailing by only one at 21-20. However, the Redhawks powered through in the final points and took the opening set, 25-22.

The opening set proved to be a catalyst for the remainder of the match, as Southeast Missouri went on to win the next two sets in commanding fashion, taking each remaining set by identical 25-15 scores.

Freshmen Taylor Olden (Lincoln, Ill.) and Emily Schmahl (Edgewood, Ky.) powered the MSU offense with eight kills each, while classmate Jodie Klein (Louisville, Ky.) led the defense with 11 digs.

The Racers will return to Racer Arena next weekend when they host OVC west rivals SIU Edwardsville on Friday and Eastern Illinois on Saturday. Game times are set for 7 p.m., and 12 p.m., respectively.
