The Murray State women's basketball team returns to the CFSB Center on Monday night to host Big 10 opponent Indiana at 7 p.m.
On Friday, the Racers dropped their 2012-13 season opener, 80-69, to Western Kentucky at the CFSB Center.
Western Kentucky used a 16-0 run midway through the first half to build a lead that the Racers were never really able to recover from. The Lady Toppers took a 38-21 lead into the locker room after holding MSU to just 10 points in the first 11 minutes of the ballgame.
In the second half, the Racers begin to find their feet and were able to take advantage of miscues and foul trouble by Western. Down 23 points at the 13:57 mark in the second stanza, the Racers went on an 18-4 run to cut the lead to just nine at 57-48. However, that would be as close as Murray State would get as WKU took back the momentum and picked up the 80-69 win.
Robinson became Murray State's all-time leader in 3-point attempts during the game, as she went 1-for-4 to give her 532 for her career. Robinson took over the lead from Amber Guffey (2005-09) who finished her four years at MSU with 530. Robinson now has 175 made 3-pointers for her career and is chasing Guffey's record of 210.
Junior Erika Burgess led Murray State on the night with 22 points, while freshman Erika Sisk and Robinson followed with 15 and 13, respectively. On the boards, junior Jessica Winfrey pulled down nine to finish the night just one rebound and two points shy of a double-double. Senior Kyra Watson was also just short of her own double-double, as she had nine points and seven rebounds.
Monday's opponent, Indiana, won just six games last year, but head coach Curt Miller took over the reins last April after a highly-successful 11-year run at Bowling Green. In 11 seasons with the Falcons, Miller won six MAC championships, made six NCAA tournament appearances, three WNIT appearances, was a six-time MAC Coach of the Year and a four-time WBCA Region 4 Coach of the Year.
The Hoosiers will return four starters from last year's team, five other returners, as well as six freshman and a transfer. Helping lead the way this season will be senior Aulani Sinclair who averaged 12.4 points per game last season and shot 90.7 percent from the charity stripe.
On Friday, the Hoosiers fell in their season opener 64-52, at Valparaiso. Sinclair led the Hoosiers in with 20 points, while Milika Taufa led all rebounders with eight, to go along with eight points.
The two teams met for the first time last season at Assembly Hall where the Racers lost the lead late in the game and fell, 70-67… Despite the loss last season, this will be the first time Rob Cross has ever faced off against first-year head coach Curt Miller. Miller spent the last 11 seasons at Bowling Green where he guided them to a 258-92 record.
Fans not able to make it to The Bank on Monday will have three ways to follow the action live. For fans in the greater Murray area, they can catch the action on the radio with Kyle Rogers on 1340 AM WNBS.
