The Murray State volleyball team dropped a three-set OVC contest to rival Austin Peay, 25-15, 25-22, 25-11, on Tuesday night in Clarksville, Tenn.
The Racers (5-20, 3-12) ran up against a potent Austin Peay (17-14, 10-5) offense that hit .310 on the night and stalwart defense from the Lady Govs that limited MSU to a .029 hitting percentage.
After a 10-point loss in the first set, the Racers tried to battle back in the second set and matched Austin Peay point-for-point, even tying at 16. Down just one at 22-21, the Lady Govs would take the set with two kills and an error by the Racers, despite a kill by senior Molly Goodrich down the stretch.
In the third set, Austin Peay proved to be just too much for MSU and used a 12-2 run in the middle of the frame to clinch the set and match.
Freshman Taylor Olden led the Racers on the night with seven kills, while senior Lydia Orf paced the defense with 14 digs. Freshman Kristen Besselsen also had a good night for Murray State as she turned in a five kill and four block performance.
On Saturday, the Racers will return home to Racer Arena to put the lid on their 2012 campaign when they host Eastern Kentucky at 2 p.m.
