Racer Cross Country Heads to Regional Championships

The Murray State men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Charlotte, N.C., this weekend for the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday hosted by the University of Charlotte.
Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State will be the two other OVC members at the regional along with MSU. The rest of the OVC is in the South regional. In all, 43 teams will participate at the regional meet, including 16 from the state of North Carolina.
Friday's race will be run at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. central time, with the men's race to follow at approximately 12:15 p.m. The women will run a 6K race with the men running a 10K.
The Murray State women are coming off a fourth-place finish at the OVC Championships two weekends ago. Abigail Ashbee-Simmonds led the Racers with an eighth-place finish and a time of 17:35.25. Carolyne Tanui ran a career-best at the championships with a time of 17:52.02 and finished in 11th.
The Racer men placed 11th at the OVC meet. Lucas Prather led the Racers with a career-best time of 26:40.82. All seven of the MSU participants ran new PRs at the meet on Oct. 27.
