Murray State head volleyball coach David Schwepker has announced three players that will join the Racers for the 2013 season. Hannah Stultz of Happy Valley, Ore., Scottie Ingram of Solsberry, Ind., and Eleanor Lorenz of St. Louis, Mo., have all chosen Murray State as the place in which they will continue their educational and volleyball careers.
Stultz played four years at Clackamas High School where she recently helped lead the Cavaliers to a third-place finish in the Class 6A state tournament. Following the state championships, Stultz was named to the All-Tournament team.
In her four years with the Cavs, Stultz was a three-time All-Three Rivers League honoree and was named as the league's Player of the Year for 2012. Over her career she amassed 3,092 assists including a career-high 950 this season. Following the season, she was also named to first team All-State.
Schwepker on Stultz: “I am just thrilled that we are able to add another outstanding setter to our program. Hannah has received about as many awards as possible for the position as setter. She is super quick, makes great decisions and is a leader; three attributes that make a great setter. She has been around the game probably as long as she has been walking. Her father and high school coach and is one of the best coaches in Oregon, leading one of the top programs in the state.”
Ingram is an outside hitter from Eastern Greene High School where she has played varsity for four years. She is a four-time All-Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference honoree and a two-time All-Indiana first team selection. In addition, she is a three-time Herald-Times Player or Co-Player of the Year and a 2012 Academic All-State Honorable Mention.
This past season, she notched 649 kills to finish her career with 1,802 for her career. She also finished with 1,544 digs, 468 blocks and 162 aces. In her senior season, she attempted 426 total serves and made just one error. In four years, she helped lead the Thunderbirds to 136 wins and just 15 losses.
Schwepker on Ingram: Scottie is going to fit in so well with our already talented group of freshman hitters. She is a dynamic hitter that hits the ball very hard. Not only does she hit hard and block well, but she is a very good in the back row and is able to pass and play great defense. She is a complete player and we really look to be able to use her skills starting out as a freshman. In high school she is a middle blocker and plays outside hitter for club, so this versatility will only help at the collegiate level.”
Lorenz played four years for Lindbergh High School in St. Louis. In her four years with the Flyers, she helped lead them to back-to-back district titles in 2011 and 2012. In 2010, she was named second-team All-Conference and followed that up All-District first team and All-Region honorable mention nods in 2011.
With her club team, St. Louis CYC, Lorenz has garnered several awards as well. She helped lead her team to three Gateway Regional titles as well as the 2010 USA Volleyball Girls' Junior Olympics American Silver championship. In 2011, she returned to the Junior Olympic tournament and earned All-Tournament honors.
Schwepker on Lorenz: “Ellie is an exceptional libero and is going to help fill the role of former standout libero, Lydia Orf. In fact they both come from the same club team and have had the some of the same coaches. Ellie has been playing at a high level for many years and will come into Murray State with a lot of experience. I believe that Ellie will fit into this program extremely well and is going to be a big part of stabilizing the back row for years to come. Not only is Ellie outstanding on the court, but she is equally accomplished in the classroom, as she currently she maintains a 3.8 out of 4.0 GPA.”
