Murray State took advantage of four Mid-Continent errors in the bottom of the seventh to push across seven runs in the inning to give the Breds a come-from-behind 10-6 victory Tuesday afternoon at Reagan Field.
Trailing by two heading into the inning, Paul Ritzheimer drew a leadoff walk and went to third on Cody Larson's pinch-hit double to left center. Ty Stetson followed with a grounder to second that was misplayed to put runners on the corners. With one out, Dylan Wheeler drove in a run on a misplayed ball by the second baseman. Travis Isaak singled to center to load the bases. Jacob Rhodes drove in a run with another fielding error. Mike Kozlowski followed with a fielder's choice to second, but everybody was safe when the shortstop missed the bag at second. Brandon Eggenschwiler followed by clearing the bases with a triple into the corner in right field.
The Cougars (3-10) got on the board in the first inning as Cable McMinn delivered a solo home run to right center.
MCU added to its lead in the fourth as a one-out double and a walk put two on. Hunter Bolden drove in a run with a single up the middle before Daniel Edwards followed with a run-scoring single to right field.
The Breds (2-2) got on the board in the fourth as Eggenschwiler singled inside the bag at third to put two runners on with one out. After a wild pitch advanced both runners, Paul Ritzheimer plated a run with a sacrifice fly deep into foul territory in right field.
MSU added to its lead in the eighth as Stetson doubled inside the left-field line and went to third on Corey Bays first collegiate hit through the left side. Isaak drove in a run with a sacrifice fly into foul territory in right field, ahead of Rhodes' RBI single to center field.
The Cougars threatened to make it a game in the ninth inning as they pushed across three runs in the inning before Tyler Beers came in and retired the final two batters of the game.
Will Handlin (1-0) picked up the victory in relief after throwing four innings of three-hit shutout baseball. Seth McCabe (0-3) took the loss after allowing three runs, one earned, over two-thirds of an inning.
Stetson, Isaak, Rhodes and Eggenschwiler each collected two hits each. Eggenschwiler drove in three, while Rhodes plated two.
The Breds return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon as they travel to face Arkansas State. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
