Arkansas State used a big fourth and eighth inning to hand Murray State a 11-3 defeat Wednesday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium. The loss was the 11th for the Breds in the past 12 games against the Red Wolves.

The Breds (2-3) got on the board in the first inning as Travis Isaak started a two-out rally with a double just inside the bag at third. Mike Kozlowski followed with a single into the hole at short and Isaak never stopped running around third. The throw home was in time, but the catcher dropped the ball, allowing Isaak to score.

The Red Wolves (1-3) got their offense going in the fourth inning as a pair of singles put runners on the corners with one out. After an RBI groundout, ASU got back-to-back RBI singles from Stuart Levy and Dustin Jones. They got their fourth run of the frame on a fielder's choice off the bat of Michael Faulkner.

MSU responded in their next at-bat as Ty Stetson singled inside the bag at first with one out. After a groundout advanced the runner, Isaak delivered an RBI double off the base of the wall in left field. Kozlowski followed with an RBI triple into the gap in right center.

ASU pushed the advantage back to two runs in the sixth as a pair of hits put runners on the corners with one out for Faulkner to deliver a sacrifice fly to left center.

The Red Wolves broke the game open in the eighth as Faulkner delivered a two-run double, and was followed by an RBI triple Zach George and a home run by Zach Maggio.

Kyle Cornett (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits over 3.2 innings. Levi Shordon (1-0) earned the victory after allowing just one unearned run on three hits over a predetermined four innings of work.

Isaak and Kozlowski led the offense with two hits apiece.

The Breds return to the diamond Friday afternoon as they open a three-game series against South Dakota State. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Reagan Field.
