Game Notes

The Racers (2-0) return to action this weekend, facing four local teams at the Hilltopper Spring Classic in Bowling Green, Ky., hosted by Western Kentucky. MSU will meet the host Hilltoppers in the lone game to be held Friday, Feb. 24. at 3 p.m. Games against Indiana State at 9 a.m. and a non-conference clash against OVC-member Morehead State at 11 a.m. highlight Saturday's action, and an 11 a.m. game against Bowling Green closes out the weekend for Murray State.

SCOUNTING WESTERN KENTUCKY
The Racers open action Friday at 3 p.m., taking on host Western Kentucky in the lone contest of the day. The Hilltoppers are 6-3 this year, having gone 3-2 this past weekend at the Hillenbrand Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. WKU picked up a pair of wins against UAB and a victory against North Dakota while losing games against Southern Utah and host Arizona.

Katrina Metoyer leads the Hilltoppers offense through nine games with a .391 batting average (9-23), six runs and six RBIs. Kim Wagner is the top WKU pitcher through nine games, holding a 3-1 record in three starts and five appearances. She has struck out 28 batters in 23 innings of action.

SCOUTING INDIANA STATE
Indiana State opens the 2012 season with the Racers at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. The Sycamores are coming off of a 15-33 campaign in 2011 that saw them finish last in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 4-21 record.

Kim Pierce is ISU's top returning hitter,batting .322 in 30 games in 2011. The Sycamores return their top two starting pitchers from last season in Lindsey Beisser and Kristen Felker.

SCOUTING MOREHEAD STATE
Murray State meets up with OVC-foe Morehead State at 11 a.m. Saturday in a non-conference clash. The Eagles are 1-3 after competing at the College of Charleston Tournament last week, picking up a win against host C of C while losing games to Akron, Kennesaw State and Marshall.

Anna Sommer leads Morehead with five hits in 10 at-bats (.500 BA), four runs and three RBI, while Jami Whitcomb
is 1-1 in the circle with a 4.06 ERA through a pair of starts.

SCOUTING BOWLING GREEN
Bowling Green opened its season last week at the Tiger Invitational, finishing the weekend 2-1. The Falcons earned wins against Wright State and Alabama State and dropped their contest against host Auburn.

BGSU is led on offense by Paige Berger, who went 7-11 at the plate with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored. Paris Imholz picked up both wins, tossing 14 innings and giving up a pair of earned runs in her two starts.
