Castile Homers Racers Past Indiana State 11-3

Freshman Casey Castile hit her first collegiate home run, and senior Chelsey Sullivan struck out nine as Murray State softball scored 11 unanswered runs in an 11-3 victory Saturday morning in the first game of the day at the Hilltopper Spring Classic at the WKU Softball Field in Bowling Green, Ky.
The Sycamores claimed an early 2-0 lead in the first, aided by a pair of fielding errors on MSU. They added to their lead in the third on a deep home run to left center off the bat of Olivia Andres.
MSU (3-1) came back in the bottom half of the frame as Christian Cox singled off the shortstop's glove and Megan Glosser singled to the third baseman. Mo Ramsey followed with a single in front of the right fielder to load the bases, and Alexa Becker drew a walk to score the first Murray State run of the game. Leslie Bridges tied the game, grounding out on a fielder's choice on an out at third to score Glosser. After both baserunners advanced into scoring position, Castile jacked the first MSU home run of the season, a line drive that wrapped around the right field foul pole to put the Racers up 5-3. Meghan Sims added to the lead three batters later, tripling into the right field corner to score Ellyn Troup for a three-run advantage.
Sims drove in the first run of the bottom of the fifth as well, singling through the right side with two on to score Castile from third. Morgan Harrell drove in two more on a pinch hit double to left center that dropped as the ISU (0-1) center and left fielders crashed into each other. After a Glosser single to third base, Ramsey ended the contest, doubling into the gap in left center to score both runners and cap the 11-3 win.
Sullivan was on for the Racers in the circle as she moved to 2-0 on the season, allowing three hits and a pair of walks while giving up a lone earned run. She struck out runners in four of five innings, including two in the first and third and all three batters in the fourth.
The Racers pounded out 14 hits in four-plus innings at the plate, led by Ramsey who finished the game 4-4 with a pair of RBI. Castile drove in three, collecting hits in two of three at bats while scoring twice.
The Racers continue play at 11:05 a.m., meeting fellow OVC member Morehead State in a non-conference game.
