Racers Take Second At OVC Rifle Championship

The Murray State Racers took second place at the Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championship after the air rifle competition at Martin, Tenn.
MSU carded a 2285 in Saturday's smallbore portion and Sunday posted a 2304 in the air rifle segment and finished with a total 4589. JSU won the OVC title with scores of 2303-2328=4631. The Racers came up short in their bid for an 11th OVC title and their third straight.
Kirsten Moyer led the way for MSU with a 581 and a fourth place finish in the field of 25 competitors in the air rifle. Kelsey Emme placed seventh with 577, while Ashley Rose finished eighth at 574 and Kyle Donnan was 11th after a 572. Caroline Barber was 25th with a 551.
UT Martin placed third at 4556, while Morehead State was fourth at 4543 and the UTM women's team was fifth at 4484.
The Racers had several team members end the 2012 event being named to the various All-OVC teams.
Two Racers freshman were named to the All-OVC Newcomer Team, including Kelsey Emme to the smallbore and air rifle teams, while Kirsten Moyer was named to the air rifle team. Moyer earned a spot on the All-OVC Air Rifle First Team, while Emme earned a spot on the All-OVC Smallbore Second Team. Senior Ashley Rose ended her MSU career being named to the All-OVC Smallbore First Team and to the All-OVC Air Rifle Second Team. Sophomore Bill Harvey was named to the All-OVC Smallbore First Team.
"We worked hard but came up short," MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. "JSU had a good weekend with some solid individual performances. I am proud of our individual awards, now it's time to train for the NCAA Qualifier."
The Racers host the NCAA Qualifier at the Pat Spurgin Range in Murray, Ky., on Feb. 18th at 8 a.m.
