Naismith Award
Murray State's Isaiah Canaan has been named to the 2012 Naismith Men's Basketball Player of the Year Midseason 30 Watch List.
The award will be given during the Final Four in New Orleans.
The midseason 30 list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's board of selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the 2011-12 college basketball season.
Canaan has played his way into the national spotlight with an outstanding junior season.
He ranks among the best in the nation in 3-point percentage (48.4/3rd), 3-pointers per game (3.2/7th) and scoring per game (19.4/22nd). The native of Biloxi, Miss., is the first MSU player to lead the team in points and assists since Isaac Spencer in 2000-01. This week, Canaan was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and selected to the All-OVC team for the third time.
Canaan is also a finalist for Oscar Robertson, Bob Cousy and Lou Henson awards and has been named a finalist for the CBSSports.com Player of the Year award. The Sporting News named Canaan a mid-season All-America and BleacherReport.com named him to their All-America list.
