Murray State's Kelsey Emme competed as an individual in air rifle at the NCAA Rifle Championships on Saturday at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Emme, a freshman from Piedmont, S.D., finished in tenth place, with a score of 589. She just missed making the top-8 that advanced to the finals.
"Kelsey did a great job today in her first NCAA Championship,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. “It's very important for a shooter to get to the championships, so they can experience the distractions and nerves that go with that kind of match. There is only one first time to compete in the NCAA Championships, now she knows what to expect and will be ready next year."
.
Emme had an outstanding season for the Racers in which she was named All-Ohio Valley Conference and to the OVC Newcomer Team.
"In a match like this, everything is magnified, Lollar added. “I could tell she was fighting the nerves a little at the start. But, she settled down, stuck with the plan and shot a fine match. She trained hard all year to get here, competed hard, and competed with the best in the country."
