#9 Racers Advance To OVC Championship Finals With 78-58 Win Over TTU

The #9 Murray State Racers advanced to the championship game of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Friday with a dominating 78-58 semfinal win over Tennessee Tech at the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn.
The win for the No. 1 seed Racers pushed their season record to 29-1, and was their third victory over No. 4 seed TTU this season.
Donte Poole scored a team-high 25 points and Isaiah Canaan added 18 to advance to the title game. The Racers will go for their 15th championship Saturday.
The Racers used a 9-2 run that pushed their nine-point lead at the 15:10 mark to 16 at the 12:34 mark with a 57-41 lead. MSU pushed out to their largest lead of the game at 62-43 with 10:10 remaining when Zay Jackson made a steal and fed Poole for a layup.
Poole hit a three from the corner with 4:48 remaining for a 67-48 MSU lead.
The Racers got out of the gate to a 13-4 lead when Canaan hit a three at the 11:53 mark. MSU stretch it to a 12-point lead when Canaan finished a break to make it a 28-16 with 4:45 left. MSU led 37-30 at the break.
Murray State controlled action in the second half, leading by at least 10 points the final 16:30 and twice holding a 21-point advantage.
The Racers held a strong 54.9 to 39.3 field goal percentage advantage. MSU also out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 34-42 while forcing 19 TTU turnovers.
Both Canaan and Poole shot over 50 percent from the floor as MSU's leading shot takers. Poole ended the night 9-14 from the floor and Canaan 7-12 from the field.
Kevin Murphy scored 31 points to lead all players, tallying more than half of Tennessee Tech's points on 11-21 shooting.
The Racers will meet the winner of the semifinal game between No. 3 seed Morehead State and No. 2 seed Tennessee State. The title game is Saturday at 1 p.m. CT Saturday and aired on ESPN2.

MSU is 14-9 all-time in OVC Tournament title games including a win over Morehead State the last time they made it to the final in 2010 in Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
